New Learner Test

How well has the new learner test been received?

I have been doing in car training for the new learner test since September and have found that not too much has changed. The base line is still always going to be is the student safe to be out on the road once they leave this car?

Whether or not the pull up on the right manoeuvre is correct for a test scenario will be discussed for the rest of time. As a driver you should be taught using the Highway Code which uses the phrase ‘do not’ when talking about parking against the flow of traffic. Ask yourself this though, have you ever parked on the right hand side facing traffic in a 30mph zone? You could also ask yourself do you always come to a complete stop at stop junctions?

Overall the transition seems to have been quite smooth with new learner students noticing the change. The headlines regarding the sat nav have easily been dispelled once they have a go themselves and see it is relatively straight forward to follow.

Change is always going to be challenging for some but by the time the industry is 6 months into the new set up, we should be able to reflect and adjust. Constantly trying to improve is still the goal and CPD still plays a part in this.
